Mollie King and AJ Pritchard

The family of Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Pritchard are urging local Nantwich fans to support the former Brine Leas pupil’s bid to win the BBC show.

AJ, 23, is dancing with celebrity partner Mollie King, of group The Saturdays.

And they have already made it through to week 7 – but found themselves in the dreaded dance off last weekend.

It’s the second series AJ, from nearby Burleydam, has been a professional dancer in the series which pulls in millions of viewers every week.

He left Brine Leas Sixth Form in 2012,  and his mum Debi still runs the Pritchard Dance and Fitness Academy in Burleydam.

She said of last week’s show: “They beautifully executed one of the most difficult Ballroom Dances, a Slow Foxtrot.

“But sadly on Sunday they found themselves in the ‘Dance Off’.

“It was the second week running, but the judges made it clear that both weeks they should not have been in the “Dance Off”

“While it was ‘Bitter sweet’, their feelings were elated to be saved and continue their journey.

“Mollie had no dance skills when she started and week on week has improved.

“Their excellent compatibility has produced great chemistry and with Mollie`s continued improved dance skills has proved herself to be a serious contender to stay in this competition.

“But they need the public help and support. We need people to pick up the phones and vote, not just record and watch!”

The couple are hoping to make it through this weekend so they can perform at ‘the home of dancing’ in Blackpool in Week 9 on November 18.

Before appearing in Strictly, AJ won many awards, mainly dancing with his long-term dance partner Chloe Hewitt.

In 2015, they were crowned the British Amateur Latin Under 21 Champions.

They won the British National Youth Latin Champions in 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as British National Youth Ballroom Champions of 2013, and United Kingdom Closed Youth Latin Champions 2012, 2013 and 2014.

They shot to fame after competing in Britain’s Got Talent in 2013.
