closure of Rope Lane bridge

A major water main burst could keep the busy Rope Lane in Wistaston closed for another four days.

The burst happened earlier in the week, forcing Cheshire East Council to close off the Rope Lane bridge over the railway at the crossroads with Eastern Road and Gresty Lane.

Diversions have been set up, but major repairs have been needed by United Utilities to dig down to the burst and carry out work.

Cheshire East Highways have set up a diversion via Crewe Road, Nantwich Road, South Street, Gresty Road, Jack Mills Way, Shavington Bypass Roundabout, B5071 Link Road, Main Road, Rope Lane.

Repair works and the closure could last until Wednesday, December 6.

Pupils walking to nearby Shavington Academy have been told footpaths are accessible during the works.

“The school has not been affected and is open as normal for all pupils,” said the school.”

“D&G Buses have been in contact with the school and are looking at alternative routes.”

It’s only going to get worse as Cheshire East pass more planning for houses into the area. Allowing developers with their heavy earthmoving trucks to thunder up and down our road’s.

Earlier this year it was the same issue with the collapse of the water main on Middlewich Road. What are United Utilities doing to prevent such problems instead of causing havoc with long diversions. Do United Utilities have a program to check and prevent these failures? Better to be proactive rather than reactionary but I doubt the Water companies care about the impact on local businesses and the effect it has on local livelihoods.
