elle morris, elle's wishes, funeral

A special memorial service and funeral of courageous Nantwich youngster Elle Morris will take place this week.

Elle, 11, from Mottram Drive, Stapeley, died after a long battle with cystic fibrosis and undergoing a double lung transplant.

The popular Stapeley Broad Lane pupil brought the condition to national attention with her “Elle’s Wishes” campaign, helping raise awareness and thousands of pounds for research into the illness.

She died on January 3 after specialists fought for weeks to cure infections she suffered following the transplant surgery last year.

On Thursday (January 18), there will be a small memorial service in her name which children can attend at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich from 3.45pm.

Stapeley Broad Lane School choir will sing some of Elle’s favourite hymns and Rev Stephen Snelling will say a few words.

After the short service, candles will be lit and balloons in Elle’s favourite colours purple and green will be released on Nantwich Square.

Elle’s Wishes Facebook page said: “It would be lovely if your child would like to write a message to Elle’s family, or perhaps a note or poem for Elle.”

Enzo will then serve hot chocolate and a slice of pizza for the children at the memorial.

The following day (January 19), a funeral service will take place at 11am at St Mary’s Church.

All are welcome. People are asked to dress in bright colours, particularly purple and green.

Scores of cyclists are planning to stage a funeral escort on their bikes, which was one of Elle’s favourite pastimes and included in her Elle’s Wishes list.

All cyclists are welcome to join and escort the funeral procession from Elle’s family home on Mottram Drive in Nantwich to the church.

The procession will start at 9.45am. More details available on the Facebook event page.
