Four teenagers have now been questioned in connection with the Beam Street assault on a 23-year-old man in Nantwich in January, police have confirmed.

A 16-year-old boy from Nantwich was arrested on February 10 on suspicion of affray, and a 15-year-old boy from Manchester was arrested on February 22 on suspicion of violent disorder.

Cheshire Police say they have both “been released under investigation”.

Two more 16-year-old boys, one from Crewe and one from Nantwich, have both voluntarily attended a police station to assist with the investigation but have not been arrested.

No charges have so far been brought in relation to the incident which happened on January 26 outside the 1st Stop shop.

PC Matt Stonier, of Nantwich Police, updated Nantwich Town Council on the investigation at last week’s council meeting.

He said: “It was initially reported that 15 to 20 youths were involved, but it was not that many.

“Four have been interviewed, and a fifth is to be interviewed.

“A file will be before the Crown Prosecution Service due to the numbers of people involved and the fact the incident is being treated as a violent disorder.

“The public have been brilliant in helping us, and since this incident we have noticed a real drop in  anti-social behaviour.”
