Alan Boyd- Queen's Award for Enterprise

A South Cheshire pharmaceutical company has been recognised with one of the most prestigious business awards.

Boyds, a consultancy supporting pharmaceutical and biotech products and devices for patients, has been awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, International Trade for Outstanding Short Term Growth in overseas sales for the last three years.

Boyds was established 13 years ago, and now employs 10 members of staff working out of its offices on Electra Way on Crewe Business Park, as well as Cambridgeshire.

The team at Boyds helps to translate research ideas into medicines to treat human diseases.

It provides expertise and skills central to the development of medicinal products.

The award is in recognition of work supporting the development of cell and gene therapies, as well as to international development of other pharmaceutical and biotechnology products.

Boyds’ expert assistance helps to expedite the development of medicines, adding value to these products, and helping businesses reach key milestones in their drug development projects.

The firm has grown its overseas sales by two thirds in the last three years, with profits more than doubling.

Founder and CEO Professor Alan Boyd said: “It is a tremendous honour for Boyds to be recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

“The development of medicines for patient benefit is a global business, and Boyds works internationally to support the development of drugs and medical devices.

“Our clients are located in the major markets for pharmaceutical development and commercialisation.

“We also work for companies and academic institutions that are located in countries that have a strong science and medical base and whose government encourages entrepreneurship to help SME development.

“Around 60% of our revenue now comes from businesses based outside the UK, and we anticipate this trend will continue.”
