Cheshire East councillor’s stark warning on children and adult services funding

Children and adult services are so underfunded that Cheshire East Council will have to abandon roadworks and waste collection to pay for them without government cash, a councillor has warned.

That was the stark warning from chair of Cheshire East Council’s children and families committee as she backed a call from Crewe councillor Laura Smith (Lab) for wealthy tax avoiders to pay their fair share.

The number of school children who have tested positive in the 10 to 14 age group in Cheshire East is nearly five times that of the adult population.

Latest available figures quoted by director of education Jacky Forster revealed that at the beginning of the week (October 4), the overall positive rate in Cheshire East was 515 per 100,000 population.
