Sixth formers, staff and governors watched the debate involving Antoinette Sandbach (Con), James Laing (Lab), Ian Priestner (LD), Andrew Garman (Green) and Rob Millington (UKIP).

Mr O’Brien, who has represented the constituency which includes many villages around Nantwich since 1999, will be in charge of humanitarian affairs and emergency relief at the UN.

A couple who run a local butcher were invited to Parliament after winning through to the Countryside Alliance national annual awards. Mark and Claire Burrows, of Bunbury, near Nantwich, made it through to the final after winning the “butchers” category in the North West competition.
