Keeping hens as pets is taking off big time in Cheshire – with 99% of hen keepers recommending them as pets.
The figures come from a survey by the British Hen Welfare Trust which saves ex-battery hens (ex-bats) from slaughter by rehoming them.
A third adoption day for retired caged hens due for slaughter is being held in Nantwich on Sunday May 26.
The event has been organised by the British Hen Welfare Trust, a national rehoming charity which saves more than 60,000 hens from slaughter every year.
Bald hens are feeling clucky this winter – thanks to woolly jumpers knitted by warm-hearted Nantwich students.
The 12 hens are among the latest additions to Reaseheath College’s mini zoo.
