Nantwich man’s scale-model of WW1 Model T ‘Crewe Tractor’ wins award

A Nantwich man has won an award for his hand-built scale-model of a ‘Crewe Tractor’.

Gerald Newbrook, 77, from Blakelow, has based his model on the Crewe Tractor which was originally made in Crewe Locomotive works in 1916 and 1917.

Self-confessed Crewe train spotter and TV programme maker David Parker returns to the town this month to give an illustrated talk on his new programme, “Flying Scotsman and the Golden Age of Steam”.

And on stage at Crewe Lyceum with David will be special guest Bryan Skellon, a retired Crewe Works railway engineer whose book of memories Inside Crewe Works is published in September.

Members of the public could see Flying Scotsman at close-hand and Flying Scotsman merchandise was available for purchase.

Freightliner renames Cheshire locomotive ‘Patriot’ to honour WW1 dead

A Freightliner locomotive in South Cheshire has been named ‘Patriot’ in honour of railway workers who lost their lives in the First World War.

The naming ceremony, at Freightliner’s new maintenance facility in Crewe, was attended by more than 40 people on Armistice Day.
