Cheshire East is training up social workers to fill vacancies but some then hop over the border to Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire because they pay more, a councillor has said.
Like most local authorities, Cheshire East has to rely on agency staff because it can’t recruit enough social workers.

Cheshire East Council says it has no plans to scrap pay and display parking meters and force drivers to use a parking app.
According to a report in the Times, some local councils are axing the traditional pay and display machines as mobile phone operators are switching off the 3G data network which power them.
More than 1,500 ambulance workers have voted to strike across Cheshire and the North West.
Paramedics, emergency care assistants, call handlers and other staff are now set to walk out in the region.
Arriva bus drivers in Cheshire have suspended their strike action after a new and improved pay offer from Arriva North West.
The company has now met drivers’ demands by tabling a new deal of £15 per hour or an 11.1% pay increase.

Cheshire East Council has more employees earning more than £100,000 than any other local authority in the north west, new figures have shown.
The TaxPayers’ Alliance has published its Town Hall Rich List for 2018 – showing the number of employees that received more than £100,000 in 2016-17.
