A plan to transform the way Cheshire East Council is run has been rebuffed by the ruling Conservative group – paving the way for a referendum.

Independent members – including two Nantwich councillors – wanted to see Cheshire East change from a cabinet-led system to a committee system of governance.

Residents in Stapeley have a chance to vote this week on whether the parish’s Neighbourhood Plan should be adopted.

Polling cards for the referendum have been delivered to more than 1,000 households, with voting to take place on February 15.
