A sign from the signal box which used to control a railway junction has been returned to Nantwich – almost 50 years after it was last seen.

The Nantwich-Market Drayton Junction sign is now being displayed at Nantwich Museum on Pillory Street.

Nantwich Signal Box has finally been moved and relocated to a new home in Crewe after a 12-month battle to save it.

A team of engineers worked from 1am to 3.30am moving the landmark from next to the Wellington Road level crossings.

Network Rail is set to demolish Nantwich’s aging railway signal box if plans get given the go ahead. They have submitted plans to Cheshire East Council to knock down the signal box at the level crossing on Wellington Road.
