Police don’t believe the huge fire which engulfed a Nantwich metal merchants and brought traffic around the town to a standstill was not suspicious.

The blaze at Garratt’s Metals, on Alvaston Business Park, forced police to close the A500, A51 and A530 routes in the Reaseheath and Sainsbury’s area because of thick plumes of smoke affecting drivers.

Dozens of firefighters battled the blaze for much of the day on Friday, but no one was hurt in the incident. Some roads were closed until the early afternoon.

Cheshire Police said today the cause remains “unexplained” but said it “was not believed to be suspicious”. Investigations continue.
