Nantwich cheese-maker Joseph Heler has launched its award-winning product in Tesco stores across the UK.

Coloured Cheshire (pictured) is hitting deli counters in 74 stores around the North of England this week.

Cheshire cheese is currently enjoying a revival thanks to the hard work of producers from the county, who launched the “Love Cheese Eat Cheshire” campaign.

Angela Pasco, of Joseph Heler Cheese based in Hatherton, said: “We have won numerous awards for our Coloured Cheshire over the years and are extremely proud of its taste and quality.

“We are hoping the customer reach that the Tesco deli counters bring will help spread the word about this diverse and delicious British cheese.”

Joseph Heler has been producing Cheshire cheese since it originated in 1957.

Their original Coloured Cheshire cheese is hand-crafted to a recipe over 100 years old. The colouring is created by using an ancient vegetable dye called Annatto.

Cheshire cheese predates all other English cheese and its heritage stretches back to Roman times.

Its fame was sealed forever with a mention in the Doomsday Book a thousand years later.
