A young Nantwich woman will be taking part in Combat Challenge’s first ever female cage fighting bout.

Anya Lynette Hynes, of Wrenbury, will compete in the event at the four-star Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford on February 24.

Anya, 22, who works for Sainsbury’s in Nantwich, has been involved in martial arts for years after battling back from a childhood cancer.

She took up kickboxing nine years ago and moved into the rapidly growing sport of cage fighting two years ago.

Now she intends to crown her amazing rise in combat sport with the historic semi-professional bout against Nahida Khan, a fitness instructor with a background in thai boxing.

Anya, a former Reaseheath College student, said: “I started at a local club called “Fighting Fit” in the church hall in the town centre.

“I started as a way of getting strong because I was the weakest in my school year.

“I had acute myloid leukaemia when I was younger which took a lot of strength and confidence away, so kickboxing was perfect to build myself up at my own pace without feeling I was in competition with others.

“But then other friends got me into various other martial arts such as kung fu, jujuitsu, and submission wrestling.

“I was doing a mixture of martial arts, so MMA/Cage fighting was a perfect way of being able to put everything I’ve learned into one fight.”

Anya is hoping for a big turnout at the Combat Challenge event, which features 15 male bouts and her own, starting from 7pm.

Tickets, which are £25, can be ordered through Anya by messaging her on Facebook.
