Nantwich Town notched a first win since Boxing Day with a 2-1 victory over North Ferriby United at the Weaver Stadium.

Goals from Mat Bailey and Sean Cooke earned the Dabbers three points after a Russell Fry penalty gave the Yorkshire outfit an early lead.

The visitors opened the scoring after just two minutes as Wayne Brooksby was adjudged to have been fouled by Matt Lowe in the penalty area and Fry made no mistake in slotting home from the spot.

Nantwich reacted well to the goal though and could have equalised just 15 minutes later as Andy White’s cut back was struck well by Michael Lennon only to be saved by Adam Nicklin in the United goal.

The Dabbers equaliser came just before the half hour mark as White again provided a good cross and Bailey rose to head past Nicklin.

North Ferriby then went close to regaining the lead as Gary Bradshaw’s left footed free-kick crashed against the crossbar.

Nantwich took the lead just before half-time when Lennon cut back for man of the match Cooke who beat two defenders before smashing a left-footed shot into the bottom left hand corner.

The early stages of the second half were played in the centre of midfield and it wasn’t until the final twenty minutes that either side looked like scoring.

White’s 30-yard free-kick forced a sharp save from Nicklin before Lennon also tested the United keeper.

Nantwich’s Simon Everall came on in the closing stages and twice flashed wide before Bradshaw could have equalised for North Ferriby in stoppage time when his right footed drive hit the post.

Nantwich: Brain, Lowe, White, MacPherson, Moss (C), McDonald, Cooke, Lynch (Maguire, 85), Bailey, Lennon (Everall, 80), Foster (Urwin, 73). Subs: Mitchell, Aspinwall.
