Very swollen River Weaver, Nantwich (July 2012)

The Environment Agency has today placed a stretch of the River Weaver in Nantwich under a Flood Warning.

This means flooding is expected and residents and businesses are warned to take immediate action.

The stretch of river affected runs from the Reaseheath roundabout at the A51 north through to the Shrewbridge Lodge area in the town.

The rest of the River Weaver catchment area in Mid and South Cheshire is under a Flood Alert, where flooding is possible in Crewe, Winsford and Northwich areas and people should be aware.

Heavy rain yesterday and more forecast over the next 24 hours has left the watercourse very swollen.

It’s currently one of 37 Flood Alerts and 17 Flood Warnings in place in the North West alone, with many more across the UK.

The Flood Warning was brought in at 2.30am this morning.
