These are the latest pictures of the River Weaver in Nantwich sent in by readers.

The Environment Agency placed the river on Flood Warning for around 24 hours as torrential and persistent rain saw the river burst its banks.

Riverside footpaths and bridges are impassable in Nantwich, as these images show.

But the Flood Warning has now been downgraded to a Flood Alert as the Environment Agency says rain will ease and immediate serious risk of flooding to homes and businesses lessens.

A spokesman said: “Rain will begin to slow down with rain clearing from midnight through to tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.

“There is currently lots of surface water on the roads so care needs to be taken when driving about this area.

“The duty team are monitoring the situation and will update any alerts or warnings where necessary.”

The warning was in place from north of the town centre near the A51 down to Shrewbridge Lodge and Nantwich Lake to the south.

Rain across the country also hit today’s football programme, with Nantwich Town’s away game at Ilkeston FC called off and Crewe Alex’s home clash with Bournemouth also waterlogged.
