Heavy snow is causing disruption and chaos across South Cheshire.

Dozens of schools have closed or are closing early and many minor roads are barely passable.

Major routes have also had problems, with reported accidents on the M6 in Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Arriva Trains Wales say rail travel in Nantwich has not been hit so far, with services between Crewe, Nantwich and Shrewsbury continuing. Passengers are advised to check out their website

Pear Tree Primary School in Stapeley has been forced to cancel a planned trip to take children to perform in the Young Voices at MEN Arena tonight.

Other schools including Brine Leas, Malbank, Shavington High, Millfields and Acton Primary have closed early, while Highfields are allowing children to be collected early.

South Cheshire College in Crewe and a number of high schools in the town are also closing early.

For youngsters, the first deep snowfall for more than a year will bring plenty of fun and games.

Around 10cm has fallen by around midday today (January 18), and forecasters say it will continue on off until at least 9pm tonight.

More snow showers are also forecast tomorrow (Saturday January 19).

Emergency services are advising people to only travel on essential journeys to avoid disruption.
