Villagers packed into St Mary’s Church in Wistaston for its annual civic service.

The event was organised by Wistaston Parish Council, and guests included Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East, Cllr George Walton and wife Veronica.

Yesterday’s (February 10) service was taken by Rev Mike Turnbull and the preacher was Rev Ken Sambrook. The organist was John Axon.

Musical items were performed by the Wistaston Church Lane Primary School choir and the Shavington High School wind ensemble.

Many representatives of community organisations were invited to attend by chairman of the Wistaston Parish Council Cllr John Moore.

These included Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 35th South West Cheshire Group and all the parish councillors.

All who attended were invited to the church hall after the service for refreshments.

A spokesman said: “It was a most successful community event, enjoyed by so many different local organisations and their representatives.”
