Weaver Wander, Rotary of Crewe & Nantwich

Nantwich will host the return of Weaver Wander Classic and Sports Car event in June this year.

The event, organised by The Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver, includes a 100-mile convoy of classic vehicles through Cheshire, North Wales and Shropshire.

Cars will set off from Bentley Motors Legends Club in Crewe and proceed through Nantwich along Beam Street, Waterlode, Audlem Road and past Nantwich Lake.

They will make their way to Chirk Castle for the halfway halt, giving onlookers chance to see cars drive by.

From 1pm to 5pm there will be a static display of classic vehicles of all types at the Weaver Stadium in Nantwich with cars on the navigation run due to return at about 3.30pm.

Three awards will be presented at 4.30pm.

One is the ‘Tub’ Reynolds award, in memory of the late Melvyn Reynolds, a founder member of the Rotary Club and lifelong car enthusiast.

It will be for the crew that best portrays the sprit of the event.

Two other awards are for most interesting car and a club award for best car club attendance.

Event organiser Fred Bowers said: “The first three Weaver Wander events raised over £16,000 for charities and provided free entertainment for the whole family.

“With past entries coming from all over the UK, we would like this event to build, not only into an annual fun day for Nantwich, but also as a major tourist attraction for the town.

“We are inviting anyone with a classic car, van, truck, bus or motorcycles to join in the static display at the Weaver Stadium.”

The Weaver Wander will this year raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and the Stroke Association.

The event, sponsored by Nantwich-based Car Transplants Ltd, takes place on Saturday June 29 from 10am.
