Nantwich Town forward Simon Everall has praised the team’s loyal supporters following their defeat at Ilkeston FC.

Jimmy Quinn’s men were beaten 3-0 at the New Manor Ground, but the travelling fans continued to back their side relentlessly with a number of upbeat chants.

“The fans were fantastic,” said Everall.

“Fair play to them. They have been brilliant all season and they are definitely among the best in the league.

“Despite it being an away fixture on a Monday night, they still managed to turn up in force and out-sing the home fans.

“Their support means such a lot to the players. It gives us that extra motivation to keep going, especially when things aren’t going our way.”

Matt Richards scored twice as Ilkeston FC ran out comfortable winners to leave Nantwich down in 15th in Evo-Stik Premier League.

Kieran O’Connell completed the scoring for Ilkeston, who could have won by a bigger margin had it not been for a superb goalkeeping display by captain Jon Brain.

The Cumbrian stopper produced a number of fine saves, including an outstanding penalty stop to deny Laurie Wilson with the score at 1-0.

Wilson struck the spotkick well, but Brain sprung to his right to palm the ball to safety.

Brain made another one-on-one save to stop O’Connell finding the net shortly after half time, but the hosts did extend their lead on 52 minutes.

O’Connell threatened again midway through the second half, but Brain’s fingertips kept out the youngster’s bullet header.

Joe Guest almost grabbed a sensational late consolation goal for the Dabbers with a thumping 30-yard effort that struck both crossbar and post, before bouncing to safety.
