A Nantwich butcher produced a sizzling performance to land gold awards for its speciality sausages.

H Clewlow Butchers in Pepper Street, won three of its four entries, including two sausage submissions, at the Smithfield Awards 2013.

Its Pork & Blackstick Blue Cheese sausage and its signature Dabber Dizzler, also a regional finalist in this year’s Britain’s Greatest Sausage awards, were triumphant.

The remaining gold fell to the shop’s Lamb Kofta Burger.

Clewlow’s is a third generation family butcher which has been trading in Nantwich for more than 80 years.

Now owned and run by Charles Clewlow, the business has won multiple awards over many years for its products.

The Smithfield Awards, known as the “Butchers’ BAFTAs”, is a national showcase contested by Q Guild butchers nationwide.

It took place at the Butchers Hall in Smithfield, London, with celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli dishing out the prizes.

More than 360 individual products from Q Guild butchers nationwide were entered.

Q Guild national chairman Brindon Addy said: “Products were evaluated by an independent panel of expert judges.

“The fact that 170 of them, or 47% of the total entry, received either diamond or gold awards speaks wonders for the quality of submissions and the emphasis our members continue to place on product innovation.

“Smithfield Awards remain among the meat industry’s most prized accolades.”

  1. Very well done Clewlow’s. This is exactly the sort of business Nantwich needs….or should we have another hairdresser?
