Nantwich Town were left rueing a host of missed chances as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Blyth Spartans.

The Dabbers only had Alex Meaney’s first half strike to show for a dominant performance at the Weaver Stadium.

A wealth of chances came and went which allowed the visitors  to steal a point through Arjun Purewal’s header.

Nantwich loanee Nick Haughton was the shining light with exciting footwork and skill but even he spurned a great chance in the second period.

Danny Johnson’s side started brightly with crosses threatening to pick out Aaron Burns in dangerous positions.

Blyth captain Robert Dale showed fancy footwork on six minutes but his pull back was left by striker Lewis Horner with no one behind.

Mark Jones popped up at the back post on 10 minutes, not the first time this season, but from a tight angle he hit wide of the open goal.

Meaney slotted in expertly on 26 minutes after great build-up play from the Dabbers led to Harry Clayton squaring for the scorer intelligently.

Meaney nearly added to his tally on 32 minutes but his shot cannoned off Aaron Burns and out.

Burns powered over one-on-one with keeper Conor Grant on 55 minutes when the impressive Clayton harried Blyth defenders again.

Haughton somehow missed when wide open in the Spartans box on 62 minutes after Clayton had pulled back.

Nantwich were made to pay when Blyth’s Arjun Purewal headed in from close range on 66 minutes from a free-kick wide on the Nantwich left.

Man of the match Haughton showed his skill again on 90 minutes, striding forward to blast narrowly wide from range but neither team could edge ahead.
