Nantwich Aqueduct reopened after £235,000 restoration

The Grade II* listed Nantwich Aqueduct has officially been opened after a two-month restoration project by the Canal & River Trust.

The £235,000 work involved removing layers of old paint from the aqueduct’s structure, replacing a missing cast iron panel, repairs to the stone and brickwork and applying four coats of new paint.

Staff at the RSPCA wildlife centre in Nantwich are treating a number of gannets which were blown off course by Storm Desmond.

The seabirds are currently at Stapeley Grange, on London Road, after they were found grounded and exhausted having been blown off-course by the strong winds.

Melling will be at WHSmiths in Bridgemere Garden Centre on Saturday December 19 and Sunday December 20, 10am to 2pm.
