The body of a man believed to be missing pensioner Roy Tomlinson has been found in the outbuilding of a house in Wellington Road, Nantwich.
Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 10.50am today (February 2) – a week after the 83-year-old went missing from Brookfield House care home.
Cheshire Police say the description and clothing of the deceased matches that of missing man Mr Tomlinson, although formal identification has not yet taken place.
His family have been made aware.
A police spokeswoman said: “A post mortem will take place in due course.
“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file will prepared for the coroner.
“We would like to thank the media and members of the public for their assistance in publicising this appeal.”
The search for Mr Tomlinson, who suffered dementia, involved hundreds of police officers, specialised search and rescue teams, volunteers and local residents.
Nantwich lake and River Weaver were searched, as well as hundreds of back gardens, sheds and outbuildings.
Sadly years ago if someone vulnerable went missing, a police van would tour around the streets with a loudspeaker alerting folk to check outbuildings and join a search.
It wasn’t till a day or so later I heard the helicopters were looking for him, by which time it might have been too late.
Poor guy.
The helicopter was in the air at around 5.20pm the evening that Roy went missing, also at this time the police had posted a message via the internet as to why the helicopter was over nantwich. I agree the loud speaker would have been great but we are now living in a world of technology that unfortunately not everyone has.

I worked there once, they were forever leaving the front door unlocked. If it was ever a hot day they use to leave the front door open!

Why didn’t the police look in that out building. It’s so close to Brookfield nursing home.
