A Nantwich man was killed when he was hit be a train near Wrenbury, British Transport Police has confirmed.

The 26-year-old victim was on the Shrewsbury to Crewe line near Wrenbury Station when he was hit at around 10.20am yesterday (October 9).

He has not been identified, but an inquest is likely to open in the next few days.

A spokesman for British Transport Police told Nantwichnews: “We were called to an area near Wrenbury station at 10.20am on Sunday, 9 October, following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“We attended, along with colleagues from Cheshire Police and The North West Ambulance Service, but sadly a 26-year-old man from the Nantwich area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family has been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident caused many services to be cancelled yesterday, with some replacement bus services laid on.
