Hundreds of Crewe and Nantwich girl guides enjoy Science Day

More than 200 girls from Weaver Division (Crewe and Nantwich) Rainbows, Brownies and Girlguiding groups united for a Science Day.


Interactive workshops were set up across South Cheshire College, where girls visited each pod in their individual groups.

Eight-year-old Lilyanna won with her answer of 2,000 when trying to guess the number of lights on the star which will top the town’s Christmas tree.

Council leaders in Cheshire East have welcomed a Government report which revealed more details about Phase Two of high-speed rail project HS2.

The report from the Secretary of State confirms the intended route known as 2b through Cheshire East and on to Manchester Airport and Manchester.

Freightliner renames Cheshire locomotive ‘Patriot’ to honour WW1 dead

A Freightliner locomotive in South Cheshire has been named ‘Patriot’ in honour of railway workers who lost their lives in the First World War.

The naming ceremony, at Freightliner’s new maintenance facility in Crewe, was attended by more than 40 people on Armistice Day.

Work starts on £200,000 Nantwich Pool upgrade

A £200,000 upgrade of Nantwich Pool has started with repairs and improvements to the Cheshire East Council owned leisure facility.

The refurbishment will include a replacement of decayed wooden ceilings, replacement of lighting with economical LED lighting systems, full redecoration, refurbished changing room lockers and servicing of main pool pumps.

The Lodge of Wych Malbank helped raise £1,600 at a hog roast fund-raising event at Corner Farm in Wybunbury.

The money has been given to Bloodwise, formerly known as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
