Nantwich Partnership is appealing for wildlife experts to help them plan improvements to Nantwich Lake.
Funds are available to boost the environment for wildlife and local people around the lake off Whitchurch Road.
But the Partnership, chaired by Nantwich Civic Society’s Jeff Stubbs, needs people with “good knowledge and expertise” to help prepare jobs and things that can be done.
Up to £5,000 has been donated by United Utilities and Severn Trent, after the companies closed the lake car park for several months last year to allow tunnelling for a new pipeline.
“They were persuaded by Nantwich Partnership to give a little bit back to the community,” said Jeff.
“So, not only did they resurface the car park, but also donated £5k for improving facilities for wildlife and people using the area around the lake and riverside.”
Jeff is looking for helpers who have a good knowledge about what and how to set about spending the funds.
He has already approached the RSPCA and Cheshire East Council Ranger service, who he said are too busy to help.
“With some general ideas in mind, the Partnership is looking for assistance,” he added.
“We are thinking of providing a safer feeding area way from the car park but are not sure what sort of size or surface it needs – and where.
“Then, how do the ducks, geese get out of the steep lake banks?
“Also, is there a need for some protected areas for them to nest safely? What sort of places and protection are suitable?
“Might there be some benefit with some extra signage to advise visitors about safely feeding the wildlife?
“All these ideas need some expert help to bring them into place.
“We are also open to suggestions for other things we can do to help the area for nature and for people.”
