Nantwich Rotary raises £1,800 for earthquake-hit Nepal school

The Rotary Club of Nantwich has helped to raise £1,800 for a school in Nepal.

The Nantwich club, officially ‘twinned’ with the Rotary Club of the Himalayan Gurkhas, will help fund a water and sanitation block for 25 children and staff of Golmaraja Lower Secondary School.

Nantwich Olympic heroes Bryony Page and Andy Small have been honoured with Cheshire East’s Freedom of the Borough status.

Also honoured was Sir Philip Craven, now living in Cheshire, who is President of the International Olympic Committee and has played a key role in Team GB’s Paralympics success.

Pub bosses across Nantwich have backed a police campaign to clamp down on underage customers using fake ID.

The initiative, called ‘Fake ID? Real Consequence”, aims to warn those trying to gain access to licensed premises and buy alcohol by using fake ID or someone else’s ID.

There was a grand opening with a guest appearance from Father Christmas, a ‘Candlelit Concert of Christmas Past’ by the Gallery Singers of Shrewsbury and an open event with prize raffle and light refreshments.

Thick fog swept across the pitch making it almost impossible for players to see each other.
