Civic Service at Willaston

Willaston Parish Council held its first Civic Service at St John’s Methodist Church on Wybunbury Road.

The event was hosted by the Chairman Cllr Maurice Jones and was attended by Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr Olivia Hunter, which was last occasion of her mayoral year.

Nantwich and District Branch of the Royal British Legion also attended.

The service was conducted by Willaston resident, Rev Michael Parrot.

A choir of Willaston Women’s Institute members gave a rousing performance of Jerusalem and Early One Morning.

Funds raised during the service went to the British Heart Foundation – the charity of the 2016/17 Rose Queen, Isabella Yates.

Miss Yates aims to have raised £1,500 by the end of her Rose Queen year in July.

After the Service there was an exhibition by Willaston and District History Group and complimentary refreshments.

The event was organised by councillors Craig Bailey and Rubina Greenwood.

Cllr Jones said: “It was an excellent occasion supported by a number of organisations and I look forward to future Civic Services.”
