Snugburys Peter Rabbit party

Snugburys in Nantwich is to stage a Peter Rabbit Party this weekend, to celebrate the unveiling of the new 40ft structure after the original was burnt down.

The new 40ft straw sculpture was installed last week after staff and volunteers pulled together to resurrect the favourite Beatrix Potter character.

The original straw rabbit was set alight in February by suspected arsonists.

Cleo Sadler, director at Snugburys in Hurleston, said: “We were devastated when we saw Peter up in flames in the field, he took more than 1,000 man hours to build but sadly was seen burnt to the ground in 10 minutes!”

After the fire, the metal frame was salvaged and with the help of Harbrook Engineering, on Wrexham Road in Nantwich.

Fellow Snugburys director Kitty Sadler added: “We were overwhelmed by all the support we received from not only the local community but from across the country.

“We were completely blown away with all the kind words, people volunteering their time and donating to help re-build Peter!”

Since the incident, Snugburys has invested in higher security with CCTV and alarms to deter vandals.

Now, in celebration and to thank volunteers who helped, Snugburys is holding a fund-raising Peter Rabbit party inviting the community to celebrate with them on Saturday July 8.

From 11am to 5pm, there will be live music, games and plenty of ice cream surrounding the Peter Rabbit sculpture!

Money raised on the day will be going to The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a local Cheshire charity providing support for ill and disabled children.
