A children’s play area in Nantwich looks set to be upgraded after a two-year battle for funding and planning permission.

Youngsters have helped planners put together new ideas for the recreation area on the development of Canalside Close, off Marsh Lane.

Cllr Arthur Moran (pictured) said under a Section 106 agreement, developers were required to improve the area but only installed two pieces of equipment after they finished building the Canalside development.

So Cllr Moran and the Canal and River Trust teamed up to apply for permission to upgrade the area and secure funding.

A grant from WREN was secured along with a £1,000 ward grant from Cllr Moran’s Nantwich Town Council ward budget.

Now they are waiting for planning permission from Cheshire East before installing new equipment including a double swing, pendulum swing and a slide on safety surfacing, and retention of existing equipment on the site.

Cllr Moran said: “Hopefully we can speed things along. All the kids have been consulted the equipment is ready. We have been waiting nearly two years for this.

“Hopefully, Cheshire East Council can speed this along.”

Cllr David Marren added: “The town council should write to Cheshire East in support of this application, which is overdue and much welcomed.”
