A Dementia Friendly Christmas Tea Dance helped raise hundreds of pounds for Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity at Leighton Hospital.

It was organised by Dementia Action Alliance at Beechmere in Crewe and refreshments were donated by Tesco Extra in Crewe.

Homemade bakes and raffle prizes were brought by the group’s members.

There was music, dancing, a Christmas sing-a-long as well as a raffle.

Several of the group’s members attended, including Cheshire Constabulary, the Alzheimers Society, Bentley Motors with their Bentley representative for the Dementia Action Alliance Daniela von der Fecht, Silver Rainbows and Dementia UK.

The Dementia Action Alliance is a community steering group passionate about the battle against dementia.

It includes businesses, organisations and charities who have organised a number of events to raise awareness and funds.

Carole Salmon, community fundraiser Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity, said: “This was a fantastic community festive fundraiser.

“We are delighted the Dementia Action Alliance supports Everybody Knows Somebody Appeal.

“I encourage anyone who would like more information about the appeal and ways to support it to contact me.”

One in three individuals over 65 will develop some form of dementia.

Currently, there are 850,000 people living in the UK with Dementia.

In 2013/14, Mid Cheshire NHS foundation trust cared for 1,382 patients and in 2015/16 it rose to 2,237 cared for at Leighton Hospital.

With statistics increasing rapidly, there is a demand to raise awareness about dementia and the care available to those struggling.

The Dementia Action Alliance has a passion to raise awareness and funds regarding Dementia and other Cognitive impairment.

All proceeds from donations and raffle were donated to the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity ‘Everybody Knows Somebody’ Dementia appeal.
