Joel Stair heads towards goal

Nantwich Town’s poor run at home continued with a 3-2 defeat to strugglers Stalybridge Celtic at the Weaver Stadium last night.

The Dabbers twice came from behind, but the visitors buoyed by their recent victory over leaders Altrincham snatched all three points at the death.

Matty Wolfenden gave Stalybridge the lead in the 8th minute when he followed up a Boney save to fire home the rebound as Nantwich defence was left static.

Sean Cooke, so often Nantwich’s saviour, levelled the scores on 25 minutes with a fabulous strike.

Cooke picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and curled in a spectacular effort which went in off the crossbar.

Jamie Morgan prepares to cross the ballThe hosts continued to press, but on 42 minutes they were hit with a sucker punch when Conner Hughes popped up inside the box to fire in.

After the break, Nantwich took just seven minutes to level once more.

Jamie Morgan’s shot was blocked by a defender, but the rebound fell to Matt Bell who drilled in a fine equaliser to continue his scoring form.

Nantwich had numerous chances to win it, with Joel Stair heading narrowly wide, and Harry Clayton denied by a fine save.

Bell almost converted a Morgan cross, and then Nathan Cotterell’s effort was brilliantly tipped over by Stalybridge keeper Walton.

Three minutes into added time, the Dabbers were made to pay for a string of missed opportunities.

Wolfenden grabbed his second of the game as he reacted first to fire past Boney.

Dabbers face a tough road trip this Saturday away at fifth-placed Shaw Lane, kick off 3pm.
