skimming device on nantwich cashpoint - pic by nantwich police

Police in Nantwich have issued a warning after this skimming device used by crooks was found attached to a cashpoint in the town.

The device is designed to copy bank account details which thieves can then use to clone a user’s card.

Officers say it was found attached to a cashpoint in the town centre, but say the ATM’s software had alerted bank staff before any customers were affected.

The device was spotted and removed over the weekend.

Nantwich Police said: “We’re investigating the recent recovery of a card skimming device attached to one of the town’s cashpoints.

“Fortunately, the ATM’s software appears to have alerted staff before any customers were affected.

“Be vigilant when using ATMs. Check for signs of criminal activity.”

Devices like this are used by criminals to copy data from a cash card’s magnetic strip when it’s inserted into an ATM, so they can clone cards and steal money from user’s accounts.

If anyone has information or sees anything suspicious at cashpoints, contact Cheshire Police on 101.
