Fire chiefs issue hoverboards warning after house fire in Crewe

Firefighters are warning people across South Cheshire to be vigilant after a popular electronic children’s toy caused a fire.

Crews were called to reports of a kitchen fire in Smith Grove in Crewe and found the fire had been caused by a self-balancing electronic scooter – commonly known as hoverboards.

Mental health hospital admissions in youngsters rises in Cheshire East

Alarming new figures show Cheshire East’s youngsters are being admitted to hospital with mental health conditions almost twice as often as elsewhere in England.

Figures released by Public Health England show a rise in the number of 0 to 17-year-olds admitted to hospital for mental health issues from 2015-16 to 2016-17 across the borough – while admissions also increased in Cheshire West.

50,000 cigarettes seized in South Cheshire crackdown on illegal tobacco

Suspected illegal cigarettes and tobacco worth more than £12,000 have been found in raids in South Cheshire.

More than 50,000 cigarettes were uncovered during raids by Cheshire East Council trading standards officers on properties in Crewe and Macclesfield.

A Nantwich man has died after his Porsche Boxster careered off the A54 and crashed into a bridge over a canal.

Father-of-four Anthony Hawks, 50, (pictured) was declared dead at the scene by emergency services after the incident on the A54 Bosley Road in Congleton.

A concert which united choirs and bands at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich has helped raise vital funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities.
