Nantwich Players Summer production is the delightfully funny Ladies Day, written by Amanda Whittingham and directed by Clare Hoy and Garth Jones.
Set in 2005 when Royal Ascot was staged at York, Ladies Day tells the story of four factory work colleagues and how a day at the races changes their lives forever.
It’s a wonderful comedy.
The female characters are strong and real, yet very different from each other.
You can’t help but like them all. As the plot develops we find out more about the strong friendship between them and what has led them to that point and day in their lives.
The four leads were all brilliant and worked incredibly well together.
Moria Hignett played Pearl, due to retire from the fish factory but after a couple of glasses of bubbly starts telling some secrets.
Anne-Marie Scragg played Shelley, who can’t wait to ditch the wellies and overalls to meet a rich man.
Avril Jones played Linda, the world’s biggest Tony Christie fan and Michelle Boden played Jan, who keeps the picnic hamper safe and even on a day out talks about her academic daughter.
A day at the races with your friends.
Champagne, posh frocks and being sick in your hat. What could funnier than that?
Ladies Day is on at The Players theatre on Love Lane, Nantwich, until July 14.
