First Nantwich goal - header from Joe Malkin

Nantwich Town continued their pre-season campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Sandbach United.

But the Dabbers defence will be kicking themselves after letting a 2-0 lead slip against the lower league opponents at the Weaver Stadium.

Joe Malkin headed Nantwich in front on 19 minutes after a well-worked move, and both sides had chances before the break to add to the scoring.

The Dabbers made it 2-0 just four minutes after the restart when Malkin robbed a Sandbach defender of possession inside his own box and fed Steve Jones who couldn’t miss.

But on 59 minutes the visitors began their fightback when a cross from the left by Knight found substitute Derryn Ofori who headed low into the corner past Jaaskelainen.

It gave Sandbach impetus and they began to pressure, paying off just five minutes later with the leveller.

Skolarzynski lost possession and despite a save from Jaaskelainen, the rebound was turned in.

Both teams had chances in the remaining 20 minutes but settled for a draw.

Nantwich Town will open the new 2018/19 Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign at home to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday August 18.

The Dabbers also face early games against Buxton away and Lancaster City following before a Bank Holiday away tie with Witton Albion.

The festive period sees a trip to Stafford Rangers on Boxing Day with Witton visiting the Weaver on New Years Day. The final game of the season sees a trip to newly promoted Basford United.
