The event took place at Queens Park in Crewe and included a march from the Clock Tower to the Boer War Memorial in the park.

The incident involved a year 10 Malbank School pupil as she was walking home in the Burland area near Nantwich after school.

A plant which will turn food and green waste into compost is set to be built near Leighton Hospital after councillors gave it the go-ahead.

Biowise has been given planning permission to build the plant on land off Middlewich Road – just 1.3km away from the hospital, and 500m away from the nearest homes.

John Naylor, musical director, gave a brief explanation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s first international hit, the comic opera H.M.S. Pinafore, before the choir burst forth with two musical numbers followed by a solo from Baritone Richard Suart.
