Tree of Light plans Nantwich

Nantwich residents are invited to gather outside St Mary’s Parish Rooms where a Tree of Light will be illuminated in November.

There will be a short service of prayer, hymns and poetry at the event on Sunday November 4 at 5pm.

Rev Dr Mark Hart will lead the service with an address from Mayor of Nantwich Cllr David Marren, poem read by the Deputy Mayor Cllr Arthur Moran and the choir of St Mary’s will be joining the proceedings.

On the lead up to the event, people are invited to make a donation of £5 to dedicate a bauble to a loved one or a special cause.

Donations can be made at Nantwich Civic Hall where people will have the opportunity to fill a bauble with a name, message or items of choice.

These will be hung on the Tree of Light until after the 12th night of Christmas, when the lights will be turned off and baubles removed.

Baubles can then be collected from the Civic Hall after Monday January 14.

Baubles can be taken away to be filled and returned to be hung on the tree no later than Monday October 29.

Nantwich Town Council is leading the way by dedicating the first bauble to the late Cllr Norma Simpson, who died earlier this year.

In addition, names can be also be listed on Nantwich Town Council webpage of remembrance.

The full cost of the tree is covered by Nantwich Town Council and all donations will be divided between the Mayor’s good causes Hope House, Nantwich Fire Cadets, Nantwich First Responders and St Mary’s Church.

People are encouraged to come along to the event on November 4 to see all the memory baubles on the tree and reflect in memory of someone special.

  1. Is it just me that finds this odd? Whilst the sentiment for this tree is admirable, are we not forgetting that this very November it will be the 100 year anniversary where we should be marking the month with respect for all those who tragically left families in the First World War?
