Major work on the A51 Nantwich bypass between Cheerbrook, Peacock and Alvaston roundabouts is set to start – with the warning of major delays.

Works will continue well into November an involve four stages.

During stage 1, A51 Peacock roundabout toCheerbrook roundabout (southbound) will be closed all day on October 14 to allow for the removal of kerb lines and footway.

Between October 15-22, there will be a single lane approach to Peacock roundabout from Cheerbrook to allow for the extension of the two-lane approach northbound.

During the works, the A51 will be limited to 30mph to provide a safe working zone.

In stage 2, A51 Alvaston roundabout to Peacock roundabout (southbound) will be closed all day on October 21 to allow for the removal of kerb lines and footway.

Then October 22-27, there will be a single lane approach to the Peacock roundabout from Alvaston roundabout to allow for the extension of the two-lane approach, northbound.

Again, during the works, the A51 will be limited to 30mph to provide a safe working zone.

In stage 3, from October 28 for 3 weeks, works will create a two-lane approach from Crewe Road to Peacock roundabout in preparation for a new development on Crewe Road.

In stage 4, Peacock roundabout will be closed on November 19 for 7 nights from 8pm until 6am the following day.

These closures are to allow for resurfacing and relining of the Peacock roundabout and areas of the A51.

A Cheshire East highways spokesman said: “We will be working to deliver highway improvements in Nantwich throughout October and November.

“The works will improve approaches to the roundabout and will include resurfacing and relining works.

“We understand that there is no right time to undertake this work in such a key through route in Nantwich.

“We have carefully planned these works to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses and members of the travelling public. Delays are to be expected.”

Where road closures are in place, diversion routes will be signed to assist in the movement of traffic while works progress.

Local businesses remain open as usual.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times during the closure (blue lights only).

Delays are expected and motorists should plan journeys accordingly, view diversions online https://www.roadworks.org/?108768088

Stage 3 mentions a new development on Crewe Road, other than the old Red Sands site being made into a care home, what other developments are being planned for Crewe Road – pleassseee no more new houses?
