Students at Cheshire College – South & West have been competing with scholars across the UK to earn prestigious awards during a residential programme at Pembroke College, the University of Oxford.

Second Year A Level student Nariah Majid was recognised by the University of Oxford as a Pembroke Scholar and will take part in an additional event linked to the Pembroke North Programme.

Leighton Hospital unveils plaque for prostate cancer campaigner

Bosses at Leighton Hospital have unveiled a plaque to celebrate the founder and chairman of its prostate cancer support group.

Gary Steele MBE was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 and went on to found the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group in 2000.

Cheshire East Council chiefs could be forced to review their local plan if MPs give the green light for HS2 to hit Cheshire.

The authority adopted its local plan strategy for up to 2030 last July – three years after it was told to go back to the drawing board after submitting its first draft to the planning inspectorate.

Councillors and officers at Cheshire East are hopeful a new code of practice will mean the end of ‘bodge job’ pothole repairs on major roads.

Cheshire East Council is set to adopt a new code of practice for road maintenance – called the Well Managed Highway Infrastructure – in line with Government guidelines introduced two years ago.
