A Memory Walk held along the Riverside in Nantwich helped raise almost £400 for Alzheimer’s Society.

The event was organised by the Home Instead Senior Care Crewe, and involved caregivers, office staff, friends and family, and Crewe & Nantwich MP Laura Smith.

They walked and supported participants on the three-mile sponsored stroll around the Nantwich Riverside Loop.

It went through the beautiful town centre, Riverside Park, the historic Welsh Row and along a stretch of the Shropshire Union Canal.

According to Cheshire East Council, there are an estimated 5,730 people living with dementia in Cheshire East.

Dawn Sime, co-owner of Home Instead Crewe, was keen to organise the event to help raise money for such a worthy cause.

She said: “We specialise in providing care to older people, so the Alzheimer’s Society is a charity which is extremely close to our hearts.

“So many of our clients and their families have been affected in some way or other by dementia and as such, we are passionate about raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, as well as increasing awareness of the illness.

“The walk was such good fun, despite the weather, and was the perfect opportunity for people to get together and really make a difference to the lives of older people in our community.”

Taking place annually across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the purpose of the Memory Walk is to raise money for the Alzheimer’s society, who provide support and advice to individuals who are diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s, as well as their families and friends.

Home Instead Senior Care specialises in providing older people with non-medical care, including supporting people living with dementia; enabling them to remain living independently in their own homes.
