Morrisons in Dunwoody Way, Crewe

A 72-year-old pensioner was robbed at a cash machine outside a supermarket in Crewe, police say.

The victim was withdrawing money from an ATM outside Morrison’s on Dunwoody Way when she was approached from behind by an unknown man.

The man initially began to talk to her about the weather.

However, as she collected the money from the machine he grabbed her by the wrist and twisted her arm before stealing the cash.

The man then fled on a bicycle in the direction of Eagle Bridge Medical Centre.

The robbery happened at around 2.15pm on Friday November 16.

The offender is described as white, aged in his mid-30s and around 5ft 9in.

He has a very slim build, dark facial hair, a gaunt completion and a protruding chin.

The man spoke with a local accent and was wearing a plain black baseball cap, a black all-weather jacket which was zipped up to his neck, jeans and trainers.

He was also carrying a black rucksack with white stripes down the back.

Detective Constable Marshall-Bowater, of Crewe CID, said: “This was a serious incident and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the person responsible and bring them to justice.

“The victim in the case was a vulnerable pensioner.

“While she did not sustain any physical injuries she has been left extremely shaken up as a result of her ordeal.
