A person has been hit by a train and killed in Nantwich today (November 28).

The incident happened close to the Shrewbridge Road level crossing.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Cheshire Police, British Transport Police and paramedics attended the scene at around 10.20am.

Shrewbridge Road was cordoned off during the incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called at 10.20am this morning (28/11) to the line close to Nantwich after reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident has been declared non suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Transport for Wales cancelled a number of Shrewsbury to Crewe services this morning while emergency services attended the scene.

On Monday, an 82-year-old man died after being hit by a train in Crewe.

It happened shortly before 1.45pm when British Transport Police were called to the track close to Crewe station following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

Officers attended the location alongside colleagues from the ambulance service. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

  1. These half barriers should be banned, they are really dangerous as only half of the road is blocked, it’s easy to walk into tragedy, I have been confused myself.Deepest sympathy to all involved, tragic.

  2. Don’t know the circumstances, but the barriers come down on that crossing very late for fast through trains.

  3. Sympathy to the victims family and friends, such an tragic time for all involved . To the driver of the train my thoughts with you also there absolutely nothing you could of done to avoid or change the situation . Do not even begin to blame yourself or think if only. Prayers and thoughts with everyone involved.
