Police want help to investigate the death of a Nantwich pensioner killed in an accident on the A51 bypass.

John Huntbach, 76, from Nantwich, was found trapped underneath an HGV on the road between Alvaston and Peacock roundabouts.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by North West Ambulance paramedics who battled to save him.

Cheshire Police is appealing for information and dashcam footage from the public following the incident at around 11.20am on Friday (December 14).

Following the incident, John’s family released a statement, saying: “It is great sadness that John Huntbach died on Friday 14 December in a tragic incident.

“John was a much loved husband, dad and grandad and we ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

John’s next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

A joint police and Health and Safety Executive investigation into the cause of the incident is currently ongoing.

As part of the investigation, officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any dashcam footage of the scene between 10.15am and 11.20am.
