A popular Nantwich pub is to undergo a revamp this month as part of a new tenancy agreement.

Bosses at award-winning pub The Leopard, on London Road, are celebrating after agreeing another five-year tenancy deal with Joule’s Brewery.

And as part of the deal, Joule’s has agreed to a joint investment of around £60,000 with the landlord Sam Rock to refurbish and improve the look of the pub, which employs up to 25 full and part-time staff.

It will mean the pub closing for almost three weeks.

It will close at the end of trading on Sunday (January 6) and is scheduled to re-open on Friday January 25.

Sam, director of The Leopard Brewery Tap Ltd, said: “Joules are giving the pub a ‘sparkle’, which is basically enhancing and improving the look of the pub, as well as doing essential maintenance.”

In its first five years, Sam and his team have won a number of including Beer Champion in 2015 in the Nantwich Food Awards, and Best Pub with Food for the last three years, in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The Leopard, which was acquired by Joule’s Brewery in 2012, was originally built in 1880 by Taylor Walker in the style of an Edwardian hunting lodge.

The pub was also once the headquarters, changing rooms and home to Nantwich Town Football Club.

The first refurbishment of the Leopard in 2012 was, at the time, Joule’s Brewery’s biggest ever investment.
