The norovirus winter sickness bug is sweeping through a Nantwich school, forcing it to close.
Brine Leas Academy headteacher David Cole made the rare decision to shut the school tomorrow (December 13) after consulting with health chiefs.
Already this week, 200 lessons at the school on Audlem Road have been affected by staff sickness.
He said: “We have experienced unusually high levels of absence, much of which is related to sickness and diarrhoea.
“With the large local demand on supply teachers, we have been unable to cover absent staff with supply teachers and have had to make alternative arrangements for some lessons today (December 12).
“Following discussions with Public Health England, the local authority and the governing body, I have made the decision to close the Academy for a brief period to enable a full deep clean and to allow students and staff to recover from any prevailing illness.”
Brine Leas should reopen on Monday December 16 for its last week before the Christmas holidays.
“We would be grateful for the support of parents in helping us reduce the spread of infection,” added Mr Cole.
“If your child has symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting or flu-like symptoms, please keep them at home until 48 hours after they last displayed the symptoms.
“During this time they should not mix with other children outside the home or visit local venues.”
