Crewe & Nantwich RUFC 1sts coach John Farr has called on his side to “step up physically” as they look to bounce back from defeat to Wolverhampton.

The Vagrants side take on Leek in their next game, which Farr hopes will give them a chance to return to winning ways.

The 1sts were beaten away at Wolverhampton 55-27, and it was the defence in the first part of the game which Farr said decided the encounter.

“It’s another one that got away from us,” he added.

“We didn’t really turn up until 20 minutes into the game, and by that stage the damage had been done.

“Make no bones about it, Wolverhampton are a decent team, but a complete absence of defence, made them look better than they were.

“We played some good rugby and scored four tries, so things aren’t completely desperate.

“Leek away is the next big contest and we need to step up physically.”

Meanwhile, Crewe and Nantwich Ladies continue their fine form with a 33-7 victory over Darlington.

The win lifts them to second in the Championship North 2 table, with league leaders Sefton only two
points ahead.

Crewe and Nantwich started strong, dominating possession, and sending Captain Mollie Latham soaring over the line in the first 10 minutes with youngster Katie Parry converting.

Darlington responded well and were over the line with a well worked try to level the scores.

Crewe immediately responded with some fantastic offloading by Latham, who continued to punch holes in the opposition defence.

Hooker Laura Hollinshead scoreed the next Crewe try, and secured a third try under the posts in the first half following a quick pick up from Jordan Morris.

Darlington pressed well after the break, but Crewe’s fitness told in the final 15 minutes.

The hosts scored two further tries from fly half Christine Lawson and winger Simone Brooke-Smith.

Latham said after: “It was another fantastic team performance from the ladies, Darlington were a very physical side and neither team stopped playing for the full 80 minutes.

“We have some very big games coming up including the next round of the cup against Kenilworth this weekend, so we will be working hard at training to ensure we put right any weak areas including our discipline.”
